We have just made the simplest improvement to our living room converted to guest room when we have out of town guests! I have been brainstorming some sort of room divider that can go up between dining area and living room, to give our guests more privacy. Nothing really seemed like it would work without being cumbersome and in the way when we wanted to have the space open. Dietrich had the brilliant idea of installing a removable dowel with curtains. It was so easy to install and I love it! When we have guests it's cozy and enclosed, and when the guests are gone the dowel and curtain come down. :)

On Wednesday morning I decided to take the day off of work. I have been tackling many projects lately as part of my master plan to continue improving our living space and my well being. It's all very exciting, but also somewhat exhausting.

|Natural Bridges, Santa Cruz|
I have always been a fan of the natural and organic, but about a year ago I got on a real natural beauty product kick. I read the book, No More Dirty Looks, and I was hooked. Now, I always reference the book or their blog anytime I'm buying a new product. I have noticed that my hair especially is much healthier after making the effort to use all natural. It's an added bonus that I actually save money compared to my old beauty routine!
Another great resource is the website, Skin Deep. It rates beauty products (almost any brand and product!) on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the most natural and 10 being the least so. It's quite an eye opener to look up the products you use! I try to use products rated 5 or below. Here's a list of some of my favorite hair products:
Conditioner: Burt's Bees Shea and Grapefruit Conditioner
Leave in conditioner: Giovanni Vitapro Leave-in Hair Treatment
Hair serum (I put this on before blow drying my hair, and also use it on dry hair to smooth fly-aways): Pre de Provence Argan Oil

This cupcake is super delish! It comes in a four-pack from the Whole Foods frozen aisle, and it's gluten free. We probably get them about once a week, and they last us two nights. Almost without fail, we decide we want them with about fifteen minutes until closing time, and then race to get there in time. It's pretty hilarious.
Dietrich tries to tell me that he should get three and leave me one, because he's bigger. I say, we only split non-desserts 75%/25%...desserts are an even-steven 50%/50%!
Then I enjoy my cupcake for the second night in a row :)

I happened to pick up one of my old journals this weekend, which is always entertaining, but I found a real gem of an entry in there that I am going to share. I wrote this in college:
There are so many things I want to do. Just for fun, I'll make a timeline. This summer I will go home and skate and work to save up. In spring I will study abroad in Italy. Next summer I will live and work in Santa Cruz. The summer after graduation I will travel the US. That fall I will start beauty school. I will go on tour with an ice show after finishing cosmetology school (and studying in France). Somewhere amongst this I will have met the love of my life and after I finish touring we will visit Europe together. Then we will come back and I'll start work as an esthetician and he will start work as a millionaire. [Love the optimism.] I'll attend business school and open up a spa, that becomes world renowned. Then someday I will go to the East with my husband, just like the MasterCard commercial. [!?]
Well, I got the traveling Europe with the love of my life part right. And I probably meant to say accountant, instead of esthetician. And Dietrich's work as a millionaire is right around the corner. I can feel it.
P.S. If your wondering about the photo, it's sort of a far out tangent, but in light of all the planning I did for my future back then it's a prediction of what our future child will look like. I uploaded our photos to this site, and that's what it gave me!
Also, a neat online diary here.

It's no secret that the Penny Ice Creamery is one of my favorite places in town. On Friday, I opted out of an impromptu company lunch to go to yoga, and on the way home I treated myself to "Pennery" for lunch. They had salted butter toffee ice cream, and I topped it off with their homemade toasted marshmallow fluff. So yum! Thanks Penny Ice Creamery for being such an amazing business one block from my office!

I'm so glad that Friday is here! Rain has finally returned to Northern California and it's blustery outside. Last night we got a chuck roast at Whole Foods (it's buy one get one free right now!) and Dietrich made beef chili in the slow cooker for us to have tonight. I'm excited to curl up with my chili and my husby and begin enjoying the weekend. :)

I had such a relaxing time in Santa Rosa this weekend. Of course, there was the bunny miracle, but I also had some nice time with my family. We got to go out to a relaxing dinner at Mayacama, and I think it was the first time we had been there since our wedding! It was delicious and cozy as usual. We came home and had cookies!
On Saturday Dietrich took a golf lesson, and my mom and I took a walk around Spring Lake. It was so lovely. We walked and talked and it was the kind of time that makes your heart warm. It was so beautiful at Spring Lake too. We saw some deer.
And we ran into a nice pregnant lady with a cute dog, Maggie. Juno and she enjoyed visiting.
We also saw this bird.
It was walking very slowly, like it was tip toeing and didn't want to disturb the tiniest blade of grass. It was very striking. When I got home I looked it up in my bird book and I learned it was Great Egret! I love learning more about birds.

This weekend Dietrich and I rode bikes around the neighborhood and stumbled upon the butterfly breeding ground. All those orange things in the photo above are actually butterflies (not leaves)! If your interested in their migration you can read about it here.
Aren't they beautiful?

During our trip to Yosemite I got to go ice skating two times! It was pure joy for me. I was a bit wobbly at first, which I remembered from the last time I skated about 3 years ago. I started to feel a bit more comfortable after about 30 minutes or so, and attempted some jumps. After a couple of falls I actually landed a double salchow! I think it was a bit under-rotated and a barely saved landing, but I did it and the evidence is below.
I tried some spins too, they made me really dizzy. I'm not sure how I managed to do those in the middle of my program back in the day.
So, now I am secretly plotting a way to get back into skating. I feel a bit challenged, considering the closest rink is over the hill, and I already have so many other things going on. For now I may have to settle for watching it on television. On Sunday there was a special tribute to Peggy Fleming on NBC that was so much fun to watch. It was especially inspiring to me because it featured some older skaters that I remembered watching as a little girl. Here is video of Peggy Fleming's performance at the 1968 Nationals for your enjoyment :)

2011 was quite the year. Here's a summary of what was accomplished:
Dietrich and I got engaged.
I made it through my first tax season.
We planned a wedding, got married and went on a honeymoon.
I took (and passed!) all four sections of the CPA exam.
...And many moments in between!
